Hazrat Khadija (R.A)-Her Life Our Inspiration

Here is a beautiful narration of Hazrat Khadija (R.A)’s life starting from the divine Revelation which descended upon Hazrat Muhammad SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam ;

He stepped inside his home,
Overwhelmed with fear
An angel came with words from God, things were still unclear
Saying read – read, but he could not read,
Amazing words he heard
A trembling deep inside his heart, confused by what had occurred
And there was only one who could comfort him
And help him see the light
To ease his fears, to reassure

It was Khadijah, his wife
He said Zamilooni, Zamilooni, Dathirooni, Dathirooni,
A mighty task has come before me
I need you here with me by my side

She was a woman of nobility,
Successful in all her trade
Many wealthy men had asked for her, she had turned them all away
But when she saw Muhammad, a shining moon, may peace be on his soul
He was a light for her so right for her life will now be whole
We look for stories of love,
In places dark and cold
When we have a guiding light,
For the whole world to behold
But were so selfish in our ways,
and to the ones we hold so close
Our own pleasure and happiness
Is what we value most
But she sacrificed all her wealth
And everything she had
And he honored her and gave her faith,
When the times were bad, when times were bad.

We have all heard of Hazrat Khadija (R.A), the first wife of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) but how much do we really know her and what lessons, as Muslims of today, can we draw from her life?
To begin with Hazrat Khadija (R.A) was born in a noble family. Her father’s name was Khuwalid bin Asad and mother, Fatima Binte Zaaeda, both being one of the most honest and pious of the time. The time was the Age of Ignorance- a period when Arab was at its worst. It was corrupt and far from Allah’s guidance. In such an era Hazrat Khadija (R.A) grew up to be one of the most enlightened women. She got the title of Tahira in her youth meaning ‘The pure one’.
Lesson#1 Patience and Professionalism
Before her marriage to Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) she had married twice and was blessed with children from both her marriages. Both her marriages left her a widow.
We all know that but the point we all miss here is that she took the death of both her husbands very gracefully and never cried or grumble about her problems. She had faith that something better is going to happen and I am going to be a part of it, a faith that we somehow have lost.
She took care of her children lovingly and supported them by carrying out trade. Islam in no way discourages women to do a job when needed. She was also very professional in her work dealt with everyone in a modest manner. We mostly mix professionalism with arrogance, when we have a skill we become professional but at the same time we also become arrogant and hard hearted. She showed us how to be an expert as well as be soft hearted at the same time and this is the real professionalism.
Due to these qualities the Quraish started calling her Ameerat Quraish (Princess of Quraish).
Lesson#2 Rich but Righteous
When we are blessed with wealth we often forget the true meaning of our lives and indulge in useless activities, not beneficial to anyone not even ourselves. But Hazrat Khadija (R.A) was a righteous woman and abstained from any such activity even before Islam. This shows us how wise she truly was.
Another thing very good about her that we often miss is that she used to appreciate her workers and in turn they used to work better when appreciated. We often do not make people realize what good they have done for us; we should understand this human nature and be grateful to people. In turn kindness will spread.

Lesson#3 Trust
She was the first wife of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) and the first believer too. She spend 25 years with him and throughout the period she never used to say anything to upset him and never expected anything from him. She used to trust him even before Prophet Hood. Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) used to spend days and nights in the Cave of Hira before the revelation finally descended upon him and Hazrat Khadija (R.A) did not bother her husband with questions like, where are you going? When will you come back? But trusted and supported him fully.
By doing so, she taught us that a wife must trust her husband not bother him unnecessarily and give him all the love and care she can and earn his respect in return.
Lesson#4 Loving Spouse
She was his friend, advisor and consoler. Was always concerned for him. Right after the Revelation, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) came to her quite distressed and narrated her what had taken place. Hazrat Khadija (R.A) believed his every word, smiled the most beautiful smile, and comforted him by saying “I feel you are becoming a Prophet.”
Then she took him to his cousin Warqah Bin Nofal who gave him the glad tidings that Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) has been chosen to become a prophet. Warqah Bin Nofal was a pious Christian man who saved daughters from being buried alive by their families (a custom in the Age of Ignorance) and raised them respectfully.
Even after Prophet Hood, she bore the hardships of Shaibe Abi Talib with great patience and endurance even though she was more of age than Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) and it must be more difficult for her.
Today, if we face a problem even of a lesser degree we would leave our husband. We have started forgetting the sacred promises we make in a marriage, taking him for granted and when he faces a problem, mostly a financial one, we leave him. Same lesson for husbands here, if your wife takes care of you in your need of hour, you do the same for her when she needs you. This is how the world goes around.
Lesson#5 No Complaining or Depression
She had two sons with her marriage to the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) Qasim (R.A) and Abdullah (R.A) both of whom passed away when very young. Qasim (R.A) passed away when he was barely able to walk. Imagine a mother’s sorrow and torment after suffering the loss of two sons. But still never a complaint from her side.
She was an amazingly brave woman who had faith in Allah no matter what circumstances she faced, a reason why Allah Almighty gave her glad tidings of Jannah (Heaven) during her lifetime. It is stated in Sahih Bokhari; Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra Radi ALLAHu Ta’ala Anha reported that Jibra’eel Alaihis Salam came to Allah’s Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam and said:

“Allah’s Messenger! Khadija is coming to you with a vessel of seasoned food or drink. When she comes to you, offer her greetings from her Lord, the Exalted and Glorious, and on my behalf and give her glad tidings of a palace of jewels in Paradise wherein there is no noise and no toil”.
We look at our mother for inspiration and Hazrat Khadija was ‘Ummul Momineen’ (Mother of Believers) so why should we not look at her for inspiration?
